Theme Day: details

Spotted this unusual kickstand on a Harley-Davidson in West Oakland.  Weird and cool at the same time, don't you think?  Linking to City Daily Photo's monthly Theme Day.  Check it out for worldwide takes on the theme of "details."

wise guy

This is a flashy looking ride.  Right after I took this picture, the owner got on and rumbled away.  Spied at Fruitvale and E. 12th St.

Taphophile Tragics: Hells Angels

I was visiting Evergreen Cemetery in East Oakland hoping to find the graves of the Jonestown victims.  Instead I found all these headstones dedicated to Oakland Hells Angels who have died.  I felt like the girl in the Exorcist, with my head whipping around when I saw these markers on my drive by.  These definitely were not here last Fall.  Their website also mentions these men but not the new grave stones.   I think they are memorial stones rather than actual grave markers.  All that black granite with the skull logos makes an impressive display.

East Bay Rats

Don't know what would possess a motorcycle club to call itself rats; but there you have it.  Their website doesn't clear up the genesis of the name but indicates they've been around since at least 1997.  Their manifesto says they are dedicated to "riding really (bleeping) fast, drinking beer, eating red meat, and doing extraordinarily stupid things when drunk."  Despite all that testosterone, sounds like they have a sense of humor about themselves.  Spotted on San Pablo Avenue at about 30th Street.

East Bay Dragons

Artistic and scary image.  This Harley had it all, down to the chrome pipes, tricked out wheels, and speakers blaring rap.  It looked like it was going 80 miles an hour just standing there.   The owner laughingly agreed.  A very cool ride.  Photographed in Uptown--Broadway and 19th St.  Check out the Dragons' website.
