Driving around East Oakland I came upon this nifty building which had been retrofitted and then adorned with glass mosaics. You could just tell that this is/was an artist studio. No signs identified the tenants, but I heard bongos being played inside. Below is a detail of one of the mosaics. Found at 24th Street and 8th Avenue near Park Blvd.
Cool, no?

Nice picture of an attractive building
ReplyDeletea job to make this decoration
ReplyDeleteWhat fine mosaics!
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, you are really finding some gems! «Louis» is always excited to see what unknown gem you've uncovered in Oakland.
I cannot imagine the hours, no days, that it took to create that mosaic. The building front is art in itself.
ReplyDeleteThat is really pretty!!
ReplyDeleteWill you show us the artist at work one day?
Oooh this is lovely. It brightens the austere bricks!
ReplyDeleteYour French is excellent!
Cool, yes! Nice one. It is a wonderful discovery.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done - a tribute, perhaps, to some of Oakland's beautiful old buildings? Your photos are beautiful and your dailyphoto is lovely! (Yes I remember "Cold Duck" - sweet, sort of.... 80's?)

Very cool and creative building!
ReplyDeleteHa! You've been hiding your linguistic talents - I've just read Ciel's comment. This is indeed smart frontage.
ReplyDeleteGlad you posted a detail, it's fantastic. It reminds me of Art Noveau.
