Monday mural: Montclair Village

This mural was a collaboration between the Montclair business district and the local high school.  It is painted on the side of a local pharmacy.  The Village is a neighborhood in the Oakland hills just above Highway 13.  It's an upscale area that caters to local residents.

Welcome to Monday Mural: if you like murals or have a mural you'd like to post, this meme's for you.  Just follow the Linky steps below.  You decide what constitutes a mural.  Once you start looking, you find them everywhere.  I'm sorry to report that I can't get Linky to load.  If anyone else has had this difficulty, please let me know what resolved the problem.  I hope you will still visit one another through the links participants are leaving with their comments.  Fingers crossed...

rotisserie dinner

At Sunday's farmer's market in Montclair Village, the booth with the longest line was this guy's serving up roasted chicken.  He couldn't move fast enough to keep up with the demand.  Definitely a time saving way to get dinner on the table.

Montclair library

I've always liked this Montclair Village library sign.  It was probably wrought and installed when the original Storybook building was constructed in 1930.  Participating in this week's Signs, Signs.

I'll be out of town for several days, and may not be able to leave comments.  Post provided through auto-posting.

Weekend Reflection: Montclair Barbershop

The interior of this barbershop is far more interesting than the reflection.  Wondering where you can get your flattop shaped?  Or your suave razor cut freshened?  This is the place.  No frou frou salon here.  Looks like a time warp, right?  For more reflections, visit James' meme Weekend Reflections.

time warp

Spotted in Montclair Village late yesterday afternoon.  The restoration looks perfect right down to the raccoon tail (no doubt faux fur) on the radio antenna.

Montclair fire station

This Storybook style fire station was designed by Julia Morgan, who is most famously known as the architect of Hearst Castle.  It is situated in Montclair Village, a small neighborhood above Highway 13 in the Oakland Hills.  Subsequent to the 1989 earthquake, the firehouse was closed due to needed retrofitting and remains closed today.  Belongs in Hansel and Gretel, don't you think?
