SF Bay on Skywatch Friday

Skywatch Friday:  Looking toward San Francisco this afternoon from the Mormon Temple.  The past few days the clouds have started out a billowy, snowy white and stack up above the Oakland hills.  In the afternoon they start to get dark undertones.  Late afternoon they turn into a grey "marine layer."  Eventually the rain starts to fall in the early evening.  Mostly we're grateful because we sorely need the rain.

  1. Very nice panorama, Carolyn. «Louis» enlarged the image - you even got the antennae on Mt. Sutro. Isn't that the Ordway building just to the right of the trees in the right side of the image?

  2. Hi there! Good to see someone from the bay area. I've been looking at the same clouds too. Aren't they beautiful? Have a great weekend. :)

  4. Louis, please enlighten me. What's the Ordway building?

BTW, the above deleted post was me trying to put your name in brackets like you do. The brackets showed up, but not your name. What's the trick?

  5. Bonjour, Carolyn -
The Ordway Building is near the Kaiser building between Grand, Harrison, 21st Street and Kaiser Plaza; near the lake and the new cathedral. It was built («Louis» thinks) in the late '60s. «Louis» generally isn't very fond of the "Stacked Ice Cube Tray School of Architecture", but he thinks this building is exceptionally fine, particularly its lobby and interior details.

«Louis» can't tell you how to put your name in brackets if you use a PC. On a Mac, it's 'Option \' for the left bracket and 'Shift-Option\' for the right bracket. These brackets (as you may know, are the French quotation marks.

In Oakland today, «Louis» spotted an Art Deco building he had somehow never noticed before. It's at the southwest corner of 14th and Webster. It has a green tile front similar to the one on Telegraph you showed. «Louis» wonders if it was built by the same developer as the one on Telegraph.
