street chat
This cutie pie looks like she was having a serious conversation with her momma. I think she wasn't too sure about the Balloon Man on stilts who was looming over her. Seen at the Temescal Street Fair.

C is for chess
At the recent Temescal street fair, there was a sidewalk chess table. All comers welcome. Intense concentration required. Linked to ABC Wednesday.

Monday Mural: automotive babes
This is the introduction to the mural I've shown you over the past three weeks. Typical for me, I can't read the pieces that indicate the artist's names. If you can, more power to you. I've learned to appreciate the nuance in this type of font but that doesn't help me read it.

public sculpture
The Oakland Museum has a lovely sculpture garden facing Lake Merritt. This isn't it. But, some sculptures are on display across the street from the museum. I took this to show you our blue skies. The forecast predicts a week-long heat wave. Linked to Skywatch Friday.

pond in the cemetery
Mountain View Cemetery has interesting nooks and crannies. This pond (one of three) is used (I think) for the irrigation system at the cemetery. While walking along the road near the pond I heard a rustling in the trees and out flew a gigantic heron. It glided across the water, banked toward the trees and disappeared into the green. I was so stunned I didn't think to raise my camera until it was out of sight. Linked to Weekend Reflections.

colors of the rainbow
The woman who painted this house has a bold sense of color. It probably has too many colors for my taste, but then I'm one of those people who is intimidated by color. Her car's pant job adds to the boldness of the overall appearance. Her neighbor told me that lots of people walking by take pictures of the house.

Monday Mural: foo dogs and cosmic harmony
I just made up the title. I have no idea what the artist's intent was. This is a new offering on Telegraph Avenue where earlier murals were painted over. This one starts the cycle again.

liquid refreshment
All kinds of libations were available at the Temescal Street Fair. This pitcher takes the prize for the prettiest drink I saw. Doesn't it seem the epitome of summer?

These siblings were enjoying the music of Lagos Roots and decided to cut a rug. Seen at the Temescal Street Fair.

music on every corner
One of the many cool things about the Temescal Street Fair is that there is music everywhere. This photo shows part of the Lagos Roots band. They really got the crowd moving.

smoke gets in your eyes
This looks like an uncomfortable job on a warm day, never mind all that smoke he's breathing in. But the hoards must be fed and he kept at it for hours. From the Temescal Street Fair this past weekend.

you want it, we got it
This food booth always cracks me up. They pretty much offer every fair food you can think of and a couple of extras. Knishes? Seen at this past weekend's Temescal Street Fair.

Monday Mural: lounge lizard
This character is part of a large mural in downtown Oakland. Every time I look at this guy I hear the BeeGees singing Staying Alive. If he's not a refugee from the 70s then he's a transplant from Vegas or Jersey. Any way you look at it, he's not from these parts. Sorry, I couldn't read the pieces to tell who painted this section of the mural.

Sorry folks, try as I might I can't get the Linky to work. Thanks, Bill for the heads up. Hopefully, next week.

the wedding cake
The cupola of City Hall. Standing at the height of 320 feet, City Hall was the first high-rise government building in the United States. At the time it was built in 1914, it was also the tallest building west of the Mississippi. The mayor, at the time of the building's inauguration, had recently been married, hence its nickname of the Wedding Cake.

Y is for "yonder"
From the shoreline or the hills, Oakland offers some pretty nice views. In the middle distance you can see buildings in our downtown area. Way out yonder on the right you can see downtown San Francisco. Yep, it's that close. The fog was in retreat, leaving surprisingly warm days and nights. Linking to ABC Wednesday.
