The Crucible is a West Oakland art center that started as a metal art fabrication workshop. Over the last several years, its offerings have expanded to include blacksmithing, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, and many other art forms. Every July there is a Fire Arts Festival that is something to behold.
I had to look it up to find out what it was used for. It looks like it has been some time since the crucible has been used. I am fascinated with history and even more when I see a piece of machinery from the past. Keep the photos coming.
ReplyDeleteWhat we call a Degel.
ReplyDeleteThe Crucible is more than just a workshop, it's actually a non-profit industrial art school. It teaches classes to adults and youth. There's nothing more fun than a 12 year old learning to weld with an oxyacetylene torch!
ReplyDeleteCool! Looks like a great place to spend some time.
