Skywatch Friday: elevated seats

This photo was taken at the zoo a few days ago.  But trust me, the sky is the exact same color today as we speak.  What the picture doesn't convey is that except for a few days this month, the weather has been cold and overcast until about noon or 1 p.m.  Finally the "marine layer" (local weather-speak for high fog) burns off, and we have clear skies until it begins to return again at 6 or so.  So while most of the country is withering in heat, we're shivering until noon.  Weird, huh?  For more sky photos from around the globe, visit Skywatch Friday.

  1. Albany Hill, where Chez la Vache is perched, seems to catch the "marine layer" and hold it longer than other areas in the East Bay. Go 1 mile south and it's sunny. One mile north and it's sunny, but Albany Hill remains socked in until 2:00 or so many days. It clears just long enough for the marine layer to regroup and head in again. Speaking of which, it's heading in now as «Louis» writes this - the Golden Gate bridge is not visible.

  2. You caught a pretty blue sky on your zoo day! We'e on vacation in Oregon (from home in El Dorado County east of Sac'to), and it's varying from sunny to overcast on the coast here in OR. But it's better than the 98 degree temps they're having at home in ElDoCo!

  3. Oh how I wish that I could trade weather with you. :) For me the really weird thing is that I lived all around Oakland for five years and I don't even remember a zoo?

  5. I'm getting a little distressed by all these reports of aberrant weather conditions around the globe. Here in Manila we ought to be in our rainy season, and although today it is largely overcast, the season has not brought enough rain to refill the main reservoir. Not a good sign. Glad you had a few hours of blue sky!

  6. Based on CDP blogger reports, the weather's been screwy all over the world the past few years. And that's just on top of what we read in the news. It's pretty scary.

On a lighter note, I'd enjoy a ride on that thing!

  7. This shot reminds me that August brings on Fair season across the US. Here in Maine, it's all about cool September days.

  10. Talking about weird weather, when I was in Hayward in May a few years ago, I was surprised when my friend still had their heater on!
