East Oakland seems to exploding with murals. This week I drove down International and saw several new ones done since December. But first things first. There are a number of new (to me) murals on Foothill Blvd that I'll feature in the next few weeks. This one is is part of a larger mural near Fremont High School at about 46th and Foothill. It is done by 360, Elijah, Desi and several high school students under the auspices of the Community Rejuvenation Project which is responsible for over 30 murals in Oakland. I've seen this frog motif before but can't remember where. Doesn't matter; I like it.

That's a high tech froggy, there! Good shot of this mural.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting!
Very bright and breezy. The metallic frog stands out well in contrast.
ReplyDeleteOh my, you sure do live in mural paradise... Fabulous rejuvenation project. I hope other cities around the world are watching and learning. Before reading your note and the comments I had to look quite a while before seeing the frog (the legs finally gave it away), but this one is packed with color punch!

ReplyDelete(Mural from Athens, scheduled on June 10th)
Please have a good Tuesday.
The Frog was actually painted by visiting artist Joey 1680 from Albuquerque NM and is down with the Community Rejuvenation Project and the Tortuga Project during the week when the larger mural on 46th and Foothill was being painted. The previous mural on that wall had been destroyed by John Stewart of the City of Oakland Building Services (510) 238-6223. Feel free to give him a call and let him know that how you feel about painting over murals in the community.
ReplyDeleteHello, I posted a mural I photographed in Ardèche, a few years ago. I think it was used as a kind of advertisement for an art festival. :-)
ReplyDeleteA sizzling mural, and so much detail to enjoy.
