Weekend Relection: estuary marina

This is the marina at Embarcadero and 16th Avenue.  It's just off the 880 freeway and yet is a surprising oasis.  The shoreline has charming Victorian buildings that look like they were brought onto the property to preserve them.  I'll show them at a later date.  The water was pretty flat this day, and reflected the masts and hulls in the marina.  For more reflections, visit James's Weekend Reflections.

  2. Marinas evoke a feeling of adventure for me. I like to walk around them, pick a favorite boat, and imagine sailing off. Yet it's not on my bucket list to own (and be tied to keeping up) a sailboat. Sailing on someone else's is enough for me. Come to think of it, the last time I did go sailing was around your parts. :-)

[Re my tower: Carolyn, you are right about the tradition of fortifications. Kaiping is a World Heritage Site because of its watch towers (I can't believe I haven't posted on this topic yet!). This one is not very impressive compared to 1000s built in this county, mostly in 1930s to protect villagers against the marauders sent by the warlords (read my comment above yours to Julie). I'd guess this tower was meant to guard the bridge.]

  8. I had the good fortune to visit San Francisco during a visit to see my husbands grandchildren. Lovely area and I wish I could have stayed longer. Your photos give me the sighs I missed.

    Thanks for the vicarious travels.
