Today was the annual Temescal Street Fair on Telegraph Avenue which celebrates the neighborhood and Oakland in general. All kinds of local businesses have booths, there are four performance stages, and lots for kids to do. Seemed like everyone and their dog was there. There's something liberating about walking in the middle of the street checking out the scene. I also checked out the murals. This one was not here last year and is done by Jake Watlin. It looks cartoonish and I don't recognize the references. But when you take a closer look, there is an under texture of what looks like faded newspapers. It surprised me. It's around the corner from a mural I showed you last year.

Automobile tires play a large part in this mural. I don't get it nor do any of the characters look familiar.
ReplyDeleteSome of those creatures look like they might be high on something. ;)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun street fair!
Fun and lol at Hilda! Funny also that the lady is looking the other way! :-)
ReplyDeleteThe more I look at this one, the more confused I am with it!!

An interesting and fun mural. There must be a theme there somewhere. I will keep looking.

ReplyDeleteI like murals that you can study for a long time. There is certainly quite a mix in this one: fun cartoon characters, a scary crow and death. Thanks for finding yet another interesting mural for us.
ReplyDeleteGreat pic of a great mural ! There are lots of very creative artists in your area! I wish I could have been there for the fair. Bonne semaine !

ReplyDeleteLa chica también sonríe al pasar por tan sonriente mural
Da gusto ver una escena tan grata, el sol y las sonrisas lo dicen todo...
Salud y Libertad :]´
It's quite fun whatever it means. I like all the bright clear colours!
ReplyDeleteSometimes murals make no sense at all but are just good fun, but it's hard not to be curious about the artists motivation oui!
