Weekend Reflection: grain elevators in Oakland?

Almost, but not quite.  This is the ConAgra flour making plant situated on the Estuary near the Park Street Bridge.  One of several industries still located on the Estuary.  The area is slowly being transformed by the condos that are being built along the water.  This view is looking northwest towards Jack London Square and a more formal marina.  For other Weekend Reflections, click here.

  4. That mill supplies much of the flour used by local commercial bakeries such as the Sara Lee/Earthgrains/Rainbo plant just off the Nimitz Freeway near the mill. Much of the flour used at the Safeway Bread Plant in Richmond off of I-580 comes from that mill. Flour to commercial bread plants that is milled there is delivered in trucks that look like tanker trucks and is vacuum pumped into silos at the bread plants.

  5. Great shot. I like taking pictures of things like that. It's funny, it's been 10 yrs since we were there but my wife was just saying that next time we go to the Bay Area she want's to be sure to go to Everett and Jones BBQ in Jack London Square.

  6. That could be out here, except, um, for those boats along the shore. Next you will have paddle wheelers.
