This is a standard 1960s apartment building enhanced by a really good paint job. Apartment buildings of this vintage are typically beige and brown and rundown. This structure, on the other hand, is quite striking and shows pride of ownership. BTW, this is across the street from
this building.
Amazing how this style is common to both sides of the Pond. We don't know the USA very well, having only been to NYC and New York State, but we enjoyed the differences between here and there and didn't see much of this kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteYou are SO right about this vintage apartment building being beige and rundown - with the emphasis on RUNDOWN.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Kelly-Moore should offer a paint: Rundown Beige...
Looks like a classy motel! I love retro :-D
ReplyDeleteThis look suffered a lot of scorn when it went out of style. I don't think you'd have seen this exact color treatment back in the day, but it certainly works.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they're retro inside; that would be fantastic.
That's in superb condition - Oakland's architectural heritage?

We have tons of 1960s apartments in San Jose, but none of them are cared for like this.
