Students at Oakland High School created a series of murals of winners of the Nobel Peace Prize. Now that Aung San Suu Kyi has been released from house arrest and has decided to participate in the coming elections in Burma, I thought about her place in this mural. Hard to believe it's been 10 years since she won the Nobel Prize, most of which she has spent in confinement.
Really? Aung San Suu Kyi is going to run again?! There is no stopping that woman. So courageous.
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice idea for the murals. I hope you will show us more.
Shalom, peace.
She is indeed courageous.
ReplyDeleteHats off to the creators of this mural in recognition of her.
It's nice to see the students took the time and effort to honour a brave woman like Aung San Suu Kyi. In my quest to photograph murals I am finding a lot of them are done by students. I'm still following your lead and post my Monday mural here.
ReplyDeletethat was my first thought, too - 10 years?!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way for the students to honor her! I love the little heart in the corner :=}
ReplyDeleteI'm glad her story is taught in the schools here. Interesting mural.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a long time, let's hope there is finally change coming for the people of Burma.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard for me to imagine being under house arrest for a decade... and still she seems to have her finger on the pulse of what's going on in her country. The next years in Burma could prove pivotal.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love this post. I think that the city daily photo community is the perfect forum for educating the world about our respective cities. But then, that could just be the teacher in me. I learned so much with this post.

p.s. Thanks for the comments on GDP. I don't get much of a chance to work the comments but oh how nice they are!
