things to see while you walk the Lake

When you walk around Lake Merritt, you'll see these trees with twisted branches that over time tend to lay down on the ground.  The lake’s iconic plant is the New Zealand Tea Tree (Leptospermum sp.), which grows with picturesque gnarled branches along the water’s edge.  We love them because of their unusual texture.

  1. Ah, so that's what a tea tree looks like. I appreciate their oil very much but have never seen the tree.

  3. Looks to me that they show the torment and pain of growing against the elements. Interesting trees.

  4. How interesting --- I have never seen our ti trees seen that contorted, even in the most windswept places. Love the curves!

  6. They really are amazing ODP, as if the branches were growing out to meet the water.
