yarn and fiber festival

There was a small fiber arts festival near the Lake on Sunday.  The yarn offerings were beautiful.  I was surprised to see so many vendors offering alpaca yarn from alpacas they were raising.  But these yarns are so much more colorful.  The suitcases makes packing out a simple proposition.

  1. You're right...the colours are vivid with luscious shades. Wish I could do knitting and weaving!

  2. Press Release

    Oakland Fiber & Textile Festival
    Sunday, July 8, 2012, from 10am to 5pm
Splash Pad Park by Grand Lake Theater in Oakland
1201 Lakeshore Avenue, Oakland, CA 94610
Free and open to the public.

We are proud to announce the 3rd annual Oakland Fiber & Textile Festival on the second Sunday in July.
This is a fun family event and educational festival, where visitors can learn everything from handling and sorting raw fiber to making finished products.
Many make-and-take booths will offer carding, spinning, felting, knitting, crochet, quilting, sewing, and weaving, so come and try your hand at as many disciplines as you like.
The festival celebrates the skills that were handed down through generations, the ability to create something with your hands. We are working to revitalize the crafts that brought us together before and can do it again.
Vendors will show and sell their wares, from freshly shorn alpaca, sheep, and goat fleeces and brightly colored artisan-dyed roving and yarn to finished products like hats, shawls, and sweaters, as well as buttons and shawl pins for the great finishing touch. More than 34 vendors, guilds, and nonprofits will be participating---almost twice as many as the first year.
There will be great raffle prizes for the lucky winners.
For more information check us out at www.oaklandfiberfest.com or call 510-595-9595.
This event is sponsored by two Oakland-based shops: Piedmont Yarn & Apparel and San Francisco Fiber.
