Theme Day: tranquility

Today is Theme Day in the CDP world.  This month's theme is "tranquility."  I found these two friends enjoying a talk in the Fruitvale Plaza.  They seemed content to be there.  Maybe the plaza reminded them of their hometown zocalo.  Click here to view thumbnails for all participants in this month's Theme Day.

  5. This is a place I could sit in for quite a while. Cowboy hats in Oakland?

  6. "So did you hear the one about the traveling salesman?"
"Yep, you told me that one yesterday."

  7. I think you are exactly right. A comfortable place for them to be, talking and catching up as they do in their own country. I wish Americans could do more of this instead of with the cell, the computer, or texting. Sitting, taking the time to chat about anything or nothing. I enjoyed this post.

  8. Looks like a comfortable, easy place to talk. Maybe that share the two-fer glasses special advertised in the window behind them.

  10. Very nice choice for theme day.

    Regarding your question:
Many of the decayed houses I've been posting are private. Generally there are two reasons for the state of decay: families are no longer wealthy and can't afford keeping them in shape or there's a 'war' between heirs going on at courts.
Restoration in state buildings is a non-stop work and you can see it everywhere, but I'm only posting those which aren't. :-) However, due to the current economic situation, I'm sure things will be worse from now on. A couple of months ago five beautiful centuries old palaces in Lisbon were for sale and I don't know if any of them were bought or not (they cost a fortune!). Maybe some hotel chain will take them, which is not uncommon here as we have more hotels in historic places.

  11. I agree that sitting with an old friend (or a new one!) for a chat can be quite tranquil. Great colors in this photo.

  13. Not long ago I post a photo of two old men sitting on a park bench at riverfront park with the river in front of them. Tranquility never entered my mind then but it sure does not.

I love the photo but I like the price of the eyeglasses in the window even better.
