Weekend Reflection: shop reflection

This East Oakland shop was on the shady side of the street and the reflection (a former movie theater turned into a grocery store) was in the sun.  What I like best about this building is the decorative tile.  Lots of buildings around town, especially those from the 20s to 40s have this kind of decoration.  I'm collecting as many examples as possible.  For more reflections, visit James' meme.

  2. Nice one; there's an interesting shop on Saltaire Daily Photo today. There have been so many closures in York that soon I'll be taking pictures of empty windows.

  7. Great reflections of that old movie theatre with its art deco style and color... I agree with you about the decorative tile on the shop and hope that you are making a collection of many snaps... what a treasure!

  8. The reflections are great but I'm with you as to what I most like: the retro tile pattern. It's fantastic!

  10. You have shown a lot of interesting tile from Oakland, of all kinds. My image of Oakland is now tile, street art and colored houses.

  11. Yes I remember this sort of storefront tile from my last visit up there. Glad to know it's still there as part of Oakland's architectural texture

  13. It's so nice to be able to walk down a street and see old things. Especially if you have a camera!

  16. The tile work is nice. Good idea to "collect" as many examples of it while you can.

  17. The tiles are so classic. What is the wee tap thingy at the right hand side of the shop front?
Oh, and the reflection is great - anything sunny is attractive for me right now!
