another Uptown deco detail

Located at Telegraph and 17th St.  Also has an entrance on Broadway.  Didn't notice it until I looked up.  Submitted as a Weekend Reflection.

  1. Beautiful.
That's what is nice about all our memes--they keep us looking up and around and down.

    Welcome to Weekend Reflections.
    Greetings from Jerusalem.

  2. «Louis» knows exactly where this building is. Oakland has more surviving Art Deco buildings than any other city around the Bay. The detail on this building is very fine - it's too bad the neighborhood (and even the building itself) is in such sad shape.

  3. Hello Carolyn and welcome to Weekend Reflections. I changed your title but there are no strict rules about titles. You can just leave your name and your blog name since it has your city. Or "Carolyn, Oakland Ca" or Oakland Daily Photo" etc.

I like your picture very much. Infact I look forward to looking at all of your pictures. From 1985 to 90 I lived all around Oakland. Not in Oakland but around. San Leandro, Richmond next to Pinole,Hayward. I've only been back once and that was 10 yrs ago.
I'm glad that you started this blog and I hope to see more of your reflections.

  4. It must be Deco Day! (Not a bad thing in «Louis'» view!)

  5. Don't get much of that round here! Very nice, and as one of the comments says, it's always worth looking up when strolling around town, with or without your camera.

  6. Love the details on that facade and the colors are wild. Nice reflections too.

  7. You should have "Deco Week"! I am glad that these buildings are not being "redeveloped". Isn't this the Floral Depot building?

  8. Three Rivers---Close. The Floral Depot building is the post for Jan. 18. They're both on Telegraph but on different corners. This one is directly across from the Fox Theater. Louis La Vache is right, the building is in sad repair where as the Depot now has a popular, upscale restaurant in it. At some point I'll post a photo of my favorite Deco building, the old I. Magnins. What an incredible facade. I like the idea of Deco Week. But I was also thinking instead of Talk like a Pirate Day, we should have a "Talk like Louis La Vache Day." Carolyn rather likes the idea.
