Spotted this mural while driving down 7th Street in West Oakland yesterday. It is on the wall of Bikes4Life a community business that works with youth.
Murals honoring past champions are great to engender community pride and inspire youth to take up the sport and compete. Just sharing the history is cool, too.
It is good to see murals of past champions - sometimes we forget the accomplishments of long ago. Francisca and Andy and I have joined you in this weekly mural.
hee hee... It looks like you've started (even if inadvertently) your own meme! Time to start posting a Llnky!.
Two observations about this mural: 1) It is interesting to «Louis» that it is done in a style drawing from the taggers, of whom there is no lack of in that part of town, and 2) that it introduces a little-known positive role model, thus honoring Marshall Taylor and offering a pointer to the modern community. A tip of the biker helmet to Bikes4Life.
